Jesus wants to reveal his mind to us. All we have to do is open the door (Rev 3:20). Begin by going to a quiet place. Use your human imagination. See Jesus with you. See him putting his arm around you. See how much he loves you.

Begin to praise Jesus for who he is—Lord, Savior, King. Praise him. Honor him. If you like, use praise and worship music to help you enter into his presence.

After some praise and singing, it’s time to tell Jesus whatever you would like to tell him. Tell him about your day, your joys, your problems. Jesus is a good listener. When you are finished, ask Jesus to share with you what he wants to say. Whatever comes into your mind might just be from Jesus. It might also be from your good thoughts. But, with practice and experimentation we really can learn how to hear and discern his voice because his sheep know his voice (John 10:14). We pray a blessing on you right now.

We have seen this way of prayer come alive as people feel Jesus’ love, his peace, his joy, and his wisdom. If you ask, you will receive (Mat 7:7).

May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice.

This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name . . .
